Deakin Cheer & Dance was founded halfway through 2007 as Deakin Cheer. The club competed for the first time in 2008. The founder, Hanna Ashton-Lawson, started the club with the following philosophy in mind:

“The philosophy of Deakin Cheer was to create a fun, friendly and welcoming environment for students keen to try the sport and make new friends. We added additional levels and dance to cater to those beyond the beginner level."

At Deakin Cheer & Dance we endeavour to keep this philosophy intact as the club continues and grows. The club has become one of Victoria's most successful university cheerleading clubs. We are also one of the most successful sporting clubs at Deakin University, and won “Club of the Year” in 2024!
